William Thomas Hill, PhD, age 91 of Hendersonville, died February 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jo Law Hill; daughters, Pamela Campbell (Jim) and Lisa Edwards (Tom); one grandson, Jay; and one sister, Judy Higdon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Anne (Missy) Hill and a brother, Robert.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during WWII. After his military service, he attended UT-Knoxville, earning three degrees in geology. He worked for New Jersey Zinc Company and Gulf & Western Industries, where he became president of New Jersey Exploration Company, a subsidiary of G&W. In 1985, two years after retiring, he became the State Geologist. He was an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols, enjoyed golf, fishing, and building and flying model airplanes.
Visitation will be on March 2, 2017 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Hendersonville. Interment service will be on Friday, March 3, at 1:00pm E.S.T at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, TN.
