Wayne Edward Spruill 72 years old born June 9th, 1950, died November 9th, 2022. "The Rolling Deacon" is now running on the streets of gold! He no longer is bound by the wheelchair!
Born in Cherry Point MCAS NC and raised in Norfolk VA, met the love of his life in the registration line freshman year at Free Will Baptist Bible College in 1968! Wayne proposed to Brenda on the original Bible College campus in February 1970. She obviously said yes because they were married for 51 beautiful years since June 19th, 1971, at Cofer's Chapel. He graduated from college in 1972 and began his business career with Randall Publishing. He continued his management career with Zondervan family bookstores and then opened his own Sonrise Christian Bookstore in Waipahu Hawai'i. Wayne was highly active as a deacon at Waipahu Free Will Baptist Church for 15 years while managing RedWing Shoes Hawai'i. Wayne and Brenda then migrated to Virginia Beach in 2000 where he managed Hope Haven Union Mission Thrift stores for 4 years. God led Wayne and Brenda back to their alma mater in 2004 where Wayne was the Director of Institutional Research until he passed. He worked up to his death.
Wayne was such a dedicated hard-working man. Loyal friend and mentor to many. He was in love with his bride and partner, a dedicated husband. He was an amazing father to his four children and left a legacy for his 10 grandchildren. He loved his grandbabies dearly! Wayne fought Muscular Dystrophy since he was 13 years old and was determined to discredit the doctors' predictions of being wheelchair bound at 20 years old! He wasn't known as the Rolling Deacon until he was Fifty years old, however, he was known by all that interacted with him as a humble, kind, patient, mentor by his actions not so much words. He liked to be behind the scenes and not in the light but he influenced so much. Such a god-fearing believer in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will see him running to hug us in Glory!
Preceded by Dallas Spruill (Father), Betty Olean Spruill (Mother); survived by his wife of 51 years Brenda Spruill and four children; Kevin, Carol, Beth and Carl (Cynthia) with 10 grandchildren! Sister Wanda (Paul) Brown and Brother Carl (Jennifer) Spruill and Brother-in-Law Bobby Sanders. We will miss him terribly, but we know we will all see him again.
