V.L. Ivy, age 72 of Gallatin, TN passed away August 8, 2022. He was born November 23, 1949 in Florence, AL.
V.L. LOVED sports, especially the University of Alabama Football Team. His love of sports led him to become very active with the Hendersonville Parks Department, and was later honored as a member of their Wall of Fame. He coached and umpired softball in the area for many years. He was also involved in fundraising for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. He was a member and Chairman Emeritus of the Deacons at Holiday Heights Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his willingness to help anyone in need and an unrivaled sense of humor. And don’t forget his words, “if you need me, I’ll call you”.
V.L. was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Pearl Baskins; son, Derrick Ivy; and siblings, Brady Myrick, Grady Myrick, Cleveland Ivy, James Ivy, and Juanita Baskins.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ivy; daughter, Melissa Ivy; siblings, Linpsford Myrick, Steve Baskins, Taylor P. Ivy, and Gloria Wilson; grandchildren, Madalee (Lee Vantrease) Estes, Madrian (Cory) Elliott, and Houston Ivy; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of V.L.’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, August 11, 2022 in the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside with Pastors Tim Abshire and Dennis Ivy officiating. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 10, 2022 and from 10:00 am until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund for V.L. Ivy at Volunteer State Bank.
