Tommy Phelps, Sr., age 81 of Gallatin, passed away suddenly December 7, 2023. Tommy was born on January 16, 1942 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the late Jim Washington Phelps and the late Lona Jane Higgs Phelps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jay Phelps and Billy Phelps.
Tommy is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jean Phelps; son, Tommy Phelps, Jr. (Rachelle); grandsons, Dylan Phelps (Anna), Chandler Phelps, and Adam Phelps; great-grandchildren, Harper Claire Phelps and Hollyn Rhea Phelps; niece, Tammy Phelps; and nephew, Randy Phelps.
Tommy was a hardworking man, retiring with over 40 years of service to Southern States Co-Op in Bowling Green, Kentucky; after retirement he and Jean moved to Gallatin, Tennessee where he continued work at Jack Anderson Elementary where he was known as “Papaw” to all the children and staff. He was a polite, kind and funny man with a great sense of humor who could be friends with anyone. Tommy could work on and fix anything; he just replaced the brake pads and rotors on his car a few weeks ago. Most of all, Tommy’s family will remember him as a good, Christian man who truly loved his family, they will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville. Interment will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until time of the service.
