Robert “Bob” Head, age 81 of Gallatin, passed away May 3, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Gallatin, Tennessee on February 7, 1942 to the late Raymond and Edna Head. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Dayton Vaughter; and brother, Gene Vaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally Head; children, Karen Head and Robert “Bobby” Head, Jr. (Donna); grandchildren, Parker Head (Amber), Abbye Chizever (Eli), Hunter Forbes, and Preston Head; sister, Mary Evelyn Cartwright (David); brother, Michael Head (Carla); sisters-in-law, Ruth Vaughter, Susan Koch, Betty Locke; several nieces and nephews; special friends, the Beach Mountain Tennis Group, The Ritchason Family and Co-Workers, The Sharp Family, The Todd Family, The Dickerson Family, and the Madison High School Class of 1960 Classmates.
Bob was born in Gallatin and raised in Madison, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Madison High School, Class of 1960 and a longtime employee of DuPont in Old Hickory, TN. Bob was a lifelong tennis player and was instrumental in developing the Cages Bend Swim and Tennis Club. He and Sally later moved to the Bay Area of California where he worked in real estate and heavy equipment auctions. They later moved back to Tennessee where he joined Ritchason’s Auction Company in Lebanon.
Bob was loved and respected by all who met him; he loved traveling with Sally and spending time with his children and grandchildren, working in the yard, playing tennis and ping pong. He was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville and a member of Mike Brown and Cary Massey’s Sunday School Class.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held 3:00 P.M., Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Hendersonville with Mike McClanahan officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Hendersonville Backpack Ministry, 106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd., Hendersonville, TN 37075 or Safe Place for Animals, 905 Mallard Drive, Gallatin, TN 37066.
