Raymond Lauren Bobel was born February 7, 1947 to Lauren and Dorothy Bobel. He was soon known as Big Brother to Freddie (Geneva), Dennis (Ginger), Robert (Debbie), and Marilyn (Tim). He was raised in Whites Creek, Tennessee and graduated from Joelton High School in 1965, where he was a founding member of the Lima Deltas. Raymond married his bride, Gail, in March of 1971, and together they raised their two daughters, Raichon (Tom) and Courtney (David). His grandchildren, Sofia (Morand), and Hadleigh and Edison (Nichols) were the sparkles in his eyes.
Raymond survived a serious heart attack and several strokes in 2009, and another heart attack in 2015. It is by God’s grace that he survived until December 11, 2024. He owned Southern Home Roofing and Siding and enjoyed helping his customers make improvements to their homes. His second career was that of a collector. He started by collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and was a member of the Mid-South Coca-Cola Clan. In the 1990’s, Raymond’s interest shifted to NASCAR items and he started Raico Collectibles, named after his two daughters.
Raymond was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, and was stationed in Germany until 1969.
He was a proud veteran, husband, father, brother, and Poppa. He was an amateur comedian, a fierce Rummy and Backgammon competitor, a fan of Beech football, Station Camp soccer, Tennessee Titans, and everything Vanderbilt. Although he will not be home for Christmas, he is in his eternal home, worshipping his Savior with his daughter, Courtney, who preceded him in death last May.
Visitation with the family is at Long Hollow Church on Saturday, December 21 from 10:00 - 11:00 am, with a memorial service from 11:00 am to noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Folds of Honor.
