Patrick Lee Benson passed away peacefully at home at 10:15 am on Monday, January 24, 2022, in the company of his wife and friends.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Jane Benson (nee Laufenburg); his daughter Anne and his daughter-in-law, Diana, who he loved as a second daughter; as well as his little brother Steve; sister-in-law Luetta; and two younger sisters.
Patrick was born in Atlanta, Ga. on April 22, 1946 to Lee and Virginia Benson. He served in the Marine Corps from 1967-1973. After being honorably discharged, he dreamed of building a family as a civilian following the end of the Vietnam War. He soon met Jane and won her heart by slipping notes under her apartment door until she agreed to go on a coffee date with him. On May 25, 1974, he married her. On August 29, 1986, they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Anne.
He worked as a computer technician for Digital in Nashville during the early days of computers. He enjoyed reading, collecting stamps, and astronomy. He loved to read about the night sky and studying it through his telescope when he could stay up long enough to see constellations and planets.
Patrick was a quiet man who enjoyed time at home with his family and his hobbies. He wanted to do all he could to take care of his wife and kids, until the last days of his life and beyond. He was described as a jokester with “decent dad humor.” He also loved early movies, including Abbott & Costello, John Wayne, and Myrna Loy. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A visitation is scheduled for 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at West End United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 4:30 pm. Rev. Dr. Carol Cavin-Dillon (Senior Minister) and Mr. Andrew Risinger (Associate Minister of Music and Organist) will lead the service.
Memorials may be made to ALIVE Hospice, who offered wonderful care for Patrick, and Nashville Rescue Mission – Patrick always supported NRM and felt strongly in assisting people to get help to be housed and stable. Condolences may be offered at UMC at 2200 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN.
