Mildred Joyce Sledge Swint, born May 6, 1930, left this earth and was reunited with the love of her life on Monday, August 2, 2021.
Mildred was born and raised in Nashville where she attended Isaac Litton High School and graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1948. She was a legacy in her own right being the first woman in Nashville to survive an open-heart bypass surgery procedure at the age of 22. Mildred would then go on to live a full life, spending time traveling the world, cultivating a beautiful garden, sharing her green thumb with her children and grandchildren, and cooking her famous fried pies for her family and friends. She loved reading, painting and playing the steel guitar. She was an avid church goer at the Hendersonville Church of Christ. Mildred loved playing Rook and taking day trips with her Sunday School Class and monthly visits to Cracker Barrel with the Brunch Bunch. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and with a lap full of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family will strive to keep her legacy alive by walking through this life with love and grace, shining light on all of those they meet, just as she did.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Swint, Sr.; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thomas Sledge; and her brother-in-law, Frank Fagan.
She is survived by her three children, Richard (Karen) Swint, Andy (Debbie) Swint, and Linda (Ron) Bell; 8 grandchildren, Kristen (Chad) Rue, Chaz (Natasha) Swint, Ryker (Bri) Swint, Amy (Brian) Bean, Andrea (Amon) Binkley, Amanda Swint, Drew (Megan) Swint and Alex Barry; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Fagan; and brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Swint.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 10:00am until time of her Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Hendersonville, with Keith Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Swint, Andy Swint, Ron Bell, Drew Swint, Ryker Swint, Chaz Swint, and Terry Draper.
