Mikell "Kelly" Monae Nevois

Mikell “Kelly” Monae Nevois-Vail, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2023, in her home in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Kelly is survived by her husband Christopher “Chris” Vail; her daughter Amber (Gerald) Slessinger; her sister Michelle Nevois-Moore; her brother Chad Nevois; her stepmother Diane (Lylburn) Nevois; and her biological father Michael Ireland. In addition, Kelly is loved and remembered by her close cousin Doris Mosbacher; her “bestest” friend of 36 years Gina Homer; and her abundance of loving family members and friends.

Kelly is preceded in death by her mother Erlene Nevois and father Lylburn Nevois.

Kelly was born on September 20, 1969, in Alton, Illinois. She was adopted by her loving parents Lylburn and Erlene Nevois as an infant. She lived near Columbia, Illinois until her dad's job with Yellow Freight transferred to Effingham, Illinois and later transferred to Plainfield, Indiana. She grew up in Plainfield, Indiana and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1987. She later studied Science at both Brevard County Community College in 1994 and St. Charles Community College in 1995. Kelly also studied Nursing at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana in 2002. In addition, Kelly proudly earned her certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) in 2014.

Kelly worked as a Phlebotomist and RMA most of her career at Summit Medical Group in Knoxville, Tennessee and later worked as a Phlebotomist and Patient Services Representative at Quest Diagnostics in St. Louis, Missouri. She dedicated the latter part of her life as an in-home caregiver for her brother Chad, who has cerebral palsy.

Kelly was a fun and spirited soul that loved and cared deeply about the people around her. Kelly was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, coworker, and friend. Kelly was so proud of her wonderful daughter Amber. She loved spending her time at home with her “hubby” Chris and her “brother like no other” Chad. Kelly loved sharing her life and staying in contact with her abundance of family and friends on social media. She touched the lives of so many people and she loved unconditionally. She will truly be missed and never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life for Kelly will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee (https://www.ucpmidtn.org/give/).
