Michael James McGinnis 72, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2022 surrounded by family and friends, after a difficult battle with Lewy Body dementia.
Michael was born in 1950 to Jack and Edith McGinnis in Long Beach, California. After graduating from Long Beach Wilson High School, he pursued a degree in Mathematics at California State University, Long Beach. Later in life he obtained a master’s degree from University of Central Michigan in Health Care Administration and Finance.
After graduation, Michael worked in the insurance industry his entire career. Initially he owned his own personal lines insurance business but spent his last 15 years working for national commercial brokerage firms. He was passionate about his work, loved what he did for a living, and made friends all over the country as a result.
He 2006 he married Barbara Boone and they have enjoyed a full life with adult children, grandchildren, friends, pets, and had many adventures together. It was at Mike’s encouragement and support that Barbara became a licensed attorney in 2010.
Mike retired in 2015 after 42 years in the insurance industry. While retired, he had time to enjoy his love of golf at Bluegrass Country Club with many friends. Those that knew him know he never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone.
Michael was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, children Jennifer Lusk, (John), Michael McGinnis (April), Jessica Salmond (David), Marc McGinnis (Layla), Trista Lawson (James) and stepchildren Tamara Jolly (Dan) Abby Maisano, (Matthew), 18 grandchildren and 3 siblings John Eldred, Toni Thompson and Teri Book. Services will be held at Sumner Funeral and Cremation in Hendersonville on August 12th. Visitation will be at 3:00 p.m. and service at 4:00 pm.
