Michael Steven Long, born on September 19, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He is remembered as a kind and friendly spirit who touched the lives of many throughout his journey.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took immense pride in marrying his loving wife, Patty Preidis Long, and shared the joys of parenthood with their children, Stefanie Long, Sarah Kelly, Chris Kelly, Kaitlyn Kelly, and Adam Long. He was also a proud grandfather of Mia and Charlie Long. Mike is also survived by his brother, Rick Long of Dubuque, IA and his nephews, Cory and Kyle Long. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and he cherished the years spent together, guiding and nurturing them with love.
In addition to his family, Mike was deeply passionate about his hobbies. He enjoyed playing drums and golfing, activities that brought him immense joy. He was also a lifelong and loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals, showcasing his enthusiastic devotion to sports.
Mike dedicated an impressive 40 years of his professional life to Cornelius, where he served as Vice President of Operations. His leadership and commitment to excellence greatly contributed to the success of his team and the organization as a whole. Colleagues and associates alike admired his work ethic and his warm demeanor, which made him not just a respected leader but also a cherished friend.
He joins his parents, Peggy Jean Turner Long and Charles Edward Long, in eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside, located at 104 Sanders Ferry Rd, Hendersonville, TN 37075, on January 4, 2025. The visitation will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a celebration of life from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM with Pastor Joel Wilkie officiating. Immediately following Mike’s Celebration of Life there will be a reception held at the Tennessee Grasslands Foxland Event Center, all are invited to attend.
Mike will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched during his time on this earth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
