Mary Louise “Lou” Golon (née Wheeler) passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, including all her children, three of her grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Born on October 27, 1933, in Ocala, Florida, Lou’s life was defined by love, faith, and service to others. She was the devoted wife of John Edward Golon, Sr., with whom she shared 68 wonderful years of marriage until his passing just over two years ago. Their bond was one of deep commitment, with faith as their foundation. Upon their marriage, Lou converted from Southern Baptist to Catholicism, embracing a faith that would guide and sustain her throughout her life.
Lou and John shared a passion for adventure, traveling the world and living in numerous places, always believing that life was meant to be lived to the fullest.
A devoted matriarch, Lou nurtured not only her six children but also her nieces and nephews, extending her love and wisdom across generations. She cherished time spent with her family, including her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, for whom she was a source of strength, warmth, and unwavering support.
Beyond her role in the family, Lou dedicated over 40 years to nursing. She served in hospitals, provided compassionate palliative care, and worked as a public health nurse in both Louisiana and Nebraska. Her skill, kindness, and dedication touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on those she cared for.
