Martha Anne Webster Taylor, resident of Blakeford Woodcrest in Nashville Tennessee passed away on October 5, 2017 at age 95 due to complications of dementia. Known to her friends as “Marty”, Marty devoted her life to her family, friends, and church always having an upbeat spirit and care for their well-being. As a dedicated follower of Christ, Marty impacted countless lives through her kind service, speaking engagements, wise counsel, and intercessory prayer.
Born in Evansville Indiana, she developed a love for photography, tennis, and flowers which she enjoyed for most of her life. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Upon graduation, Marty worked for TVA in Knoxville before moving to Washington DC to work for the House of Representatives Public Works Committee. She married Franklin W. Taylor of Morristown in 1952 where she raised her two sons. She was active in local service clubs and played tennis (winning many local tournaments). On May 13, 1965 while on a trip to Los Angeles CA – she was selected as a contestant on the Let’s Make a Deal show with Monty Hall and won a set of wrought iron furniture. In 1967 she started her own radio show called Fascinating People interviewing local celebraties and historians. She raised her own sponsorships for the show.
Sept 17, 1967 she accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord and her life changed forever (at age 45). With Peggy Chandley she helped start the Christian Women’s Club of Morristown in 1969. Over the years Marty lead many bible studies, was involved with Lay Witness events, and was a frequent speaker at Christian Women’s Clubs
After the death of her husband Frank, Marty moved to Chattanooga in 1977 to be close to her brother James Epps Webster and her mother Elizabeth Roberts Webster. While in Chattanooga, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and help support Kay Arthur with her Precepts Ministry. Over the years she enjoyed many trips overseas to Israel, Europe, England, Canada, and Scotland.
After the death of her brother, Marty moved to Franklin TN to be close to her two sons. She was active at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville until her dementia progressed. She lived her remaining years at Blakeford Senior Living where the family wishes to thank the wonderful care givers that served her in her last years – whom she appreciated and entertained with her humor and cheerful attitude.
Marty will be missed by her two children and their spouses – Richard and Julie Taylor of Franklin Tennessee and Bill and Erin Taylor of Hendersonville, Tennessee and her grandchildren – Elllis Taylor, Franklin Taylor, Richmond Taylor, Mitchell Taylor and Scott Taylor (all of Nashville, Tennessee).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Precept Ministries of Chattanooga Tennessee, or First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The family will have a private graveside burial service in Morristown Tennessee, and plan to schedule a Memorial service at a later date.
