On the morning of July 15, 2019, the clouds rolled back and Marie Hamilton, 88, ended her long journey with Alzheimer’s in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Landis, Arkansas, on April 6, 1931, to Robert and Nettie (Massey) Sutterfield. After WWII, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where she graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1950. She married Emmet Hamilton in 1951. Emmet’s job transferred the family to Logan, Utah, then to Ogden, Utah, where she worked in the First Security Bank loan department. After their two daughters married, she worked as a teacher’s aide in a Christian school until Emmet’s job moved them back to Twin Falls. Marie and Emmet moved to Duncan, Oklahoma, after he retired. There she was an active member of Unity Baptist Church. In December 2015, they moved to Gallatin, Tennessee. She attended Impact Fellowship Church and regularly
participated in activities at The Veranda, a ministry for Alzheimer’s/dementia patients and their caregivers. Wherever God led them, Emmet and Marie found a church home. Through the years, she served as a nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, VBS worker, and added her beautiful alto voice to the church choir. She is survived by: two daughters, Susan (Dennis) Johnson, Duncan, OK, and Diane (Wayne) Musson, Gallatin, TN; four grandchildren, Bryan (Heather) Johnson, Fort Smith, OK, Laura (Chad) Lee, Holdenville, OK, Caroline (Matthew) Johnson, Oklahoma City, OK, and Katie Musson, Gallatin, TN; and eight great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet Hamilton who passed away on Dec. 10, 2017, her parents, six brothers, three sisters and a great-granddaughter. Interment services will be at 11 AM, Friday, July 19, 2019, at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life will be at 4 PM that same day at Impact Fellowship Church, 650 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066,
Pastor Steve Hurst officiating. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Highpoint Hospice, especially Michelle and Amanda, who cared for our mother, grandmother and GGma for the last few months. And to Karrie Velez and Lindsay Whisenant, no words can express how thankful we are for the loving care you gave her, especially in her last few days. God knows who we needed and when we needed them, and He again provided the best! We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to MaryAnne Oglesby-Sutherly and the staff and volunteers of The Veranda for the love regularly expressed from their hearts to our mom through their words and actions. Please visit their Facebook page to view photos and videos of Marie’s activities and exploits at The Veranda. “Blessed are they who care for those that forget!” We love you! In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marie’s name to The Veranda Ministries, 650 Nashville Pike, Suite 7A, Gallatin, TN 37066 or at theverandaministries.org.
