Maria Rosa Wirtz

Maria Rosa Wirtz Valentín Gutierrez, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 22nd, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Robert Wirtz. Maria was born in Valladolid, Spain, on July 14th, 1931 to Silvio and Eulalia Valentín. She graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Valladolid. Eugene and Maria met while he was serving in the US Air Force, and stationed in Seville, Spain. They were married in 1963 and were lifelong, devout Catholics. After moving to the US, Maria was determined to go back to school and gain her US citizenship; her dream came true in 1996 at the age of 65. She was famously known for her exceptional cooking and sewing skills. She is survived by her beloved children, John (Frances); Julia (Dave); Robert (Sylvia) and Michael (Kamilah); grandchildren; Gina Murphy (Shannon); Sylvia Gutierrez; Kayla Wirtz; Zach Rose; Sophia Wirtz; Mya Wirtz; Nicholas Wirtz; Jalen Wirtz; Isabella Wirtz; Marisa Wirtz; Madison Wirtz; Benjamin Wirtz and Michael Wirtz II; great grandchildren, Bradon Durfee, Ty Murphy and Jordan Murphy; sister Maria Teresa Valentín Gutierrez; many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be laid to rest with her husband in St. Petersburg, Florida, at Bay Pines National Cemetery. Her life was full indeed, truly a woven script made to be a movie. Her resilience, always present and foundational to her many accomplishments, but most evident in the legacy she passed on to her family. Maria was loved by all who knew her and commonly referred to as Mima. She was known for her quick wit, which has become a cornerstone trait in the Wirtz family.
