Larry Bucklin, loving husband and father of three daughters, passed away on February 2, in Hendersonville, TN, at the age of 85. Larry was born on December 4, 1937 in Cape Elizabeth, ME to Fred and Laura Bucklin. A self-made man, he put himself through college by working in a factory as a tool and die maker for the General Electric Company and received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Upon graduation, he was recruited to join General Electric’s Manufacturing Management Program. Larry had a successful 20+ year career with GE, culminating in his position as Plant Manager for the motor factory in Hendersonville, TN. Following his career with GE, he and his partners purchased Crane Manufacturing and grew the business into a respected and successful boat interior design and manufacturing company.
Larry and his wife, Beth, were high school sweethearts and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was devoted to his wife and three daughters and enjoyed seeing his family grow with the addition of their many grandchildren. Every Christmas, his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren would descend on his home in Hendersonville for what one of his sons-in-law called “The Bucklin Family Marathon!” His young great-grandchildren gave him much joy during his later years.
Larry was an avid golfer throughout his life and enjoyed golfing with his friends and sons-in-law following his retirement. He also loved boating, spending many summer weekends on Old Hickory Lake. Over the years, he and his wife enjoyed extended boat trips, traveling throughout the world, and annual snow skiing trips with dear friends and family.
Larry had a strong, unshakeable faith in God and lived according to the best teachings of his faith. He was known by all as a man of great integrity with a true and strong moral and ethical compass.
Larry’s love for his family will live on through his loving wife, Beth, and their three daughters, Jean (David) Gadra, Mary (Daniel) Palermo, and Jenny (Chad) Morgan, as well as through his grandchildren Evan, Derek, and Daniel Seehausen, Elyse and Ethan Gadra, Adam and Jenna Palermo, Jordan, Sydney, Wyatt, and Ryley Marez, Lindsey, Caleb, and Isabella Morgan, and through his great-grandchildren Lola Seehausen, Karis, Norah, Shiloh, and Raema Bond, and Nevaeh and Dawson Morgan.
A visitation will be held on February 10 from 4:00 to 6:00 at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside at 104 Sanders Ferry Rd, Hendersonville, TN. A private service will be held in Maine later this year.
