John Franklin Newman, age 64, the son of Madelyn Carney Newman and Luther Hall "Dink" Newman of Hendersonville, passed away November 1, 2017, surrounded by his family and his dog "Skippy". Named after his paternal grandfather, John was the decedent of Robert and France Newman, who arrived in Sumner County in the early 1820's. “Johnny” was known for his love of horses, his kindness and his willingness to help his many friends. A 1971 graduate of Hendersonville High School, he became one of Volunteer State’s first student leaders. At MTSU, where he received his degree, he was proud to be a member of the university’s horse judging team. For many years, John and his father developed property within Sumner County.
John is survived by his two sisters, Linda Gail (Randy) Isaacs and Cheryl Newman; his nieces, Kendal Norris (Mike) Lewis, Jenny Isaacs (Andy) Lowe, Madelyn Newman, and Lucy Lowe; and his nephews, John Alexander Hall Newman, Zyon Norris Traven, and Levi Lowe.
Services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Hendersonville. The Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00pm on Sunday, November 5th and again from 11:30am until 1:30pm on Monday, November 6th. His Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:30 on Monday.
Active Pallbearers include Howard P. “Skip” Dean, Bobbie Couts, Mark Wooten, Alexander Newman, John Michael Poss, Earl Jones, Bobbie McDaniel and Danny Doris.
Honorary Pallbearers include Tommy Garrett, Reid Anderson, John Mir, “Tad” Phillips, Laura Primm, Susan Murphy, Bari Brooks, Tanya Garrett, Terri Bowen, Carla Hurley, and the “Old” Hendersonville Saddle Club.
Interment will be in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
Donations may be made to Southern Stars, Inc. (southernstars.org), a United Way agency dedicated to therapeutic and recreational horseback riding and animal assisted activities for special needs children.”
