Janet “Sue” Harper passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 after a long battle with heart disease. She was 78 years old.
Sue was born in Henderson, KY on November 12, 1943 to Reverend George Scutt and Iva Mae Scutt. Her father was a Nazarene pastor and they moved around frequently. She eventually landed in Nashville where she met and married her husband, Horace, at the age of seventeen and they stayed married for sixty years until his death.
Her career was in Accounting but Sue went to work for a Health Insurance Agency later in life eventually retiring from the industry.
Sue served in ministry at her local church for many years…most recently teaching Ladies Bible Study classes. Throughout her life she taught Sunday school, worked with her husband as a Youth Director, was the church pianist, sang in the choir and served on the Church Board.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed dinners and trips with her many friends.
Sue leaves behind a daughter, Christi (Brandon) Brown; son, George Harper; daughter Lynn (Roger) Stoll; granddaughters, Jessica and Hadlea Harper and Elizabeth Smith and grandson, Edwin Stoll.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Horace L. Harper; her brother, David Scutt and her parents.
A service is planned for Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Grace Church of the Nazarene with Visitation from 11am-1pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1pm. Pastor Jonathan Trees will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice in Nashville.
