Surrounded by his family, James Larry Norwood of Gallatin, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 20th, 2022, at the age of 75.
Larry was born to James Verlon and Mildred Agnes (Minnis) Norwood on July 19, 1947, in Rossville, GA. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1967, receiving the National Merit Scholarship Corporation award sponsored by the University of Georgia. Larry attended UGA before serving his country in the US Naval Reserve as a Seabee. He was married to his wife, Rose Ann, for 40 years. Together they enjoyed fishing and travelling with their family and serving at Hendersonville Christian Academy for many years. Larry was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN; he coached the men's softball team and served for 38 years in various ministries under the leadership of Dr. Carl Frensley, Jr, Dr. Jim Crockett, and Dr. Greg Mutsch. Like his parents before him, Larry rarely missed watching an Atlanta Braves game, and every weekend you would find him cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs (Go Dawgs) and Tennessee Titans. He also had a passion for gardening and grew various fruits and vegetables as recently as this past spring.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Vicki Patrick; daughter, Malinda Norwood; and grandson, Gatlin James Norwood. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Maranda Norwood; son, Jeremy (Leslie) Norwood; grandchildren, Darcy and Mason Norwood; brother, David (Linda) Norwood; sisters, Susan (Les) Bommer, Staci (Shayne) Lankford; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Les Bommer, Shayne Lankford, Kevin Hill, Aaron Gentry, Trent Thorell, Jackson Mungle, Troy Smith, and Lonny Musgrave.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 25, 2022 from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside with Dr. Jim Crockett and Dr. Carl Frensley officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
