James Donald “Don” Hoover, age 78 of Nashville, TN passed away May 13, 2022. Don was born October 2, 1943 in Nashville, the son of Bill Hoover and Gertrude Castille Hoover.
Don graduated from Isaac Litton High School, class of 1961 and was a proud member of the WHANGII Gang. He received his BS from MTSU and his MS from Richmond Professional Institute (VCU). Don was the former owner of The Pack Rat Store in Green Hills and a second store in the Rivergate area. He was a professional trim carpenter and cabinet maker. Don had a life-long love for Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park where he and Martha enjoyed making annual visits to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Don was a talented writer, having penned numerous poems and an unpublished book. Don's family will forever remember his sense humor, his kindness, his generous heart when he gave to us for our pleasure and benefit and his creative abilities when he built countless items for our homes.
Don was preceded in death by his father and mother; his wife of 37 years, Martha Pryor Hoover; and nephew, Buddy Hoover.
Don is survived by his brothers, Billy (Donna) Hoover of Madison and Mark (Patti) Hoover of Goodlettsville; sister, Rita (Don) Crain of White House; nieces, Kim (Jeff) Young and Angie (John) Medina; nephews, Wes (Elizabeth) Crain, Ron (Tammy) Witherington, and Ray Hoover; longtime friend, Mike Borum; and his fur babies, Joey and Pepper.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville.
