James H. “Hack” Gilliam, Jr., age 86 of Gallatin, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on January 17, 2024. Hack was born on December 28, 1937 in Gallatin, Tennessee to the late James H. “Hack” Gilliam, Sr. and the late Ada Mae Autrey Gilliam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Sue Perone.
Hack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue L. Gilliam; his children, Jayne Gilliam Coleman (Andy) and James H. “Jim” Gilliam, III (Cindy). Affectionately known as Pap, he was a caring grandfather to Andrew Coleman (Kaitlyn), Kathryn Coleman Russell (Kylar), Courtney Gilliam Mitchell (Jaylen), Molly Gilliam; and a wonderful great-grandfather to Remington Kate Coleman.
A lifelong resident of Gallatin, Hack was proud of his Sumner County heritage. He was a member of First Baptist Church Gallatin since birth where he served as a Deacon and on many committees over the years, was the Sunday School Secretary, took and helped count the offering, and served for many years in the Prayer Room. Hack was a Veteran, proudly serving in the United States Army, a 15-year member of the Gallatin Lion’s Club, and an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan.
A Celebration of Hack’s Life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. from First Baptist Church Gallatin with Dr. Travis Fleming and Rev. John Penfield officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. and on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until service time, all visitation will be at the church. Hack will be laid to rest at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 26, 2024 in Crestview Memory Gardens, the funeral procession will depart First Baptist Gallatin at 9:30 A.M.
