I. T. West

I.T. West, known to his friends as “Jack” or “T,” was born August 25, 1929 in Difficult, TN and he passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin at the age of 89.

I.T. was the son of Eltie Bee and Mabel Williams West. Throughout his early life, it wasn’t unusual for him to hold 2 or 3 jobs at a time. Before settling in at Caterpillar, he worked at a local gas station, for the volunteer fire department, as a night watchman for the Brimfield Illinois Township and sat on the village board of trustees (Brimfield, Illinois). I.T. retired from Caterpillar after 32 years of service. In his words, he retired so he could go to work. After retiring, when he wasn’t helping a son or daughter build a house or two, he and his wife loved to travel.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Ford West; sons, Johnny West, I.T. West, Jr. and Terry West; his parents; and brothers, L.B. West, Donald West and Boyce Allen West.
I.T. loved his family dearly. He leaves behind his wife, Delores West of Lafayette, TN; sister, Helen Kemp of Lafayette, TN; sons, Gene West of Illinois, Jerry West of Florida and Tony West of Red Boiling Springs, TN; daughters, Linda Donovan of Illinois, Bobbie Gauwitz of Wisconsin, and Rose Bullington of Lafayette, TN; step-daughter, Michelle West of Lafayette, TN; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Sumner County Funeral and Cremation Services in charge of local arrangements.  615-452-9059
