George William Aust, Jr., 86, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 15, 2025. George was born March 13, 1938 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to George William Aust, Sr. and Alice Mae Douglas. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1956 and from Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Business degree in 1960. During this time he served in the Reserve Officer's Training Core (ROTC) of the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany for three years. He served as Airborne Corps and Signal Corps officer and was honorably discharged as Captain in 1965 and entered a lifelong career with E. I. DuPont in Old Hickory; he retired in 2002.
George met the love of his life, Virginia Glenn Grossmann in 1955, and they married in 1960. They were members of First Baptist Church Hendersonville where George sang in the choir. He was always known for his beautiful bass voice. He had a servant's heart and served as deacon, children's Sunday school teacher and worked with the disaster relief program.
He and Ginny raised two boys, Billy and David. His passion was spending time with his family outdoors hunting and fishing. Many fishing trips to Canada and deep sea fishing as well as hunting at the family farm, New Mexico and Texas were among his most treasured memories. His kind and gentle spirit was felt by all who knew him... especially the canine family. He had a special compassion for Labrador Retrievers, and some called him the dog whisperer.
George is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, of 64 years; his sons,
Billy-deceased (Pennie) and David (Konni Jo); his grandchildren, Luke, Alex (Melissa; children Eleanor, Warner and his namesake, George), Zach and Kara-Jayne.
A celebration service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at First Baptist Church Hendersonville, 106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd., Hendersonville, TN 37075. Visitation will be 10:00 ~ 11:45 am. The service will begin at 12:00 pm.
