Gena Lyle Ryckeley, age 92 of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022. She was born on December 28, 1929, the only child of the late William Herbert Lyle and the late Eva Stanley Lyle in Atlanta, GA. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charles Edward Ryckeley. She is survived by her children, Karen Edmundson (Alan) of Clarksville, Bryan Ryckeley (Cheryl) of Gallatin, and Michael Ryckeley (Lisa) of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Matthew Edmundson, Brandon Ryckeley and Meghan Ryckeley; and many nieces and nephews of the large and wonderful Ryckeley family into which she married.
Gena was Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls in Atlanta, GA and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, most recently Chapter #477 of Hendersonville, TN. She was a charter member of Indian Lake Peninsula Church (formerly Bluegrass Baptist Church) of Hendersonville, TN, where she taught Sunday School for many years in both the Children and Adult Departments. She was a homemaker until her children were older and later entered the workplace. Gena and her husband owned Ryckeley Shoes in Hendersonville, TN. Later they co-owned, with partners, Lonnie Young Shoes in the Green Hills area of Nashville, TN, from which they retired in 1988.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 P.M. where Gena will be laid to rest next to her husband at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at shrinerschildrens.org or Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home at tennesseechildren.org.
