Frank Lee Cherry, Jr., age 81 of Hendersonville, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Frank was born on September 24, 1935, in Catawba Springs Township, North Carolina, to Ruth Matilda Black and Frank Lee Cherry, Sr.
In his early years, he served as President of his graduating class, and was active in many clubs, including County, district and State 4-H projects and activities from public speaking to livestock judging. He served on a State and National Dairy Judging Team. He was a Green Pastures contest winner and Boy’s State Representative. He was a Beta Club member and played basketball and baseball. Frank graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.A. Degree in Dairy Husbandry, and was President of Farm House Fraternity in 1963-64. After graduating, he worked for Long Meadow Farms, which later became Dairymen Inc,. for many years before becoming a Management Consultant for the George S. May International. For the past 20 years, he owned and managed Le Print Express in Gallatin, TN. He was a member of the Rotary and Civitan Clubs, Masonic Lodge #359, 32nd Degree Scottish Right, the Easter Star and was a Rainbow Girls Board Member. Frank was instrumental in founding the Hendersonville Homebound Meals Program and annual Pancake Breakfast, and served on the Board. For many years, he was active in the Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church's mission program with the Appalachian Service Project.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Joel David Cherry. He was a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Effie Lee Aman Cherry; children, Timothy L. (Deborah) Cherry, Suzanne Cherry-Cravens, and Emily (Dwight) Byrd; brothers, Jon (Patricia) Cherry and H. Wayne (Mary) Cherry; grandchildren, Genna Lea Cherry, Cason Lee (Erin) Cherry, Jack Timothy Daniel, Sarah Catherine Cravens, Simon Judson Byrd, Ethan Dwight Byrd and Rachel Elizabeth Byrd; great-grandchildren, Jon Lemuel Cravens and Leia Jolynn Hummell; 7 nephews and 6 nieces.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 8, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Hendersonville. His Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 4:00pm on Wednesday, August 9, at First Presbyterian Church, 172 West Main Street, Hendersonville, with Rev. Michael Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville Homebound Meals, Trinity Hope, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
