Fosteen Marie Hamilton, affectionately known as Teena, was born on September 28, 1937, in Paris, Tennessee and departed this life peacefully at her home in Hendersonville on September 6, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. She began her life’s journey surrounded by the love of her family, which laid the foundation for a life filled with purpose, devotion, and remarkable achievements. Teena's early years were marked by her exceptional talent in athletics, earning her the title of most athletic while she was a celebrated basketball star at E.W. Grove High School, from which she graduated in 1955.
Teena embarked on a noteworthy career that exemplified dedication and expertise. Initially serving as an executive secretary with the Jones Lumber Company in Hendersonville for many years, she later expanded her professional horizons by obtaining her real estate license. With this new endeavor, she contributed to Goodall Builders, showcasing her versatility and commitment to excellence. In time, she would retire from her position as the human resources manager at Creditek, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and professionalism.
A devout Christian, Teena found her spiritual home at the Community Church of Hendersonville, a place where she became deeply involved since its inception. Her active participation in Bible study, life groups, and the girlfriend groups reflected her unwavering faith and her desire to uplift those around her. In her role as a leader of the new member team for the Friends Ministry, she inspired many, embodying grace and compassion in her endeavors.
Teena was married to Newton Gerald Dowdy, who was her high school sweetheart. They were both born and raised in Paris, later moving to Hendersonville where they raised their family.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and support, cherished by her daughters, Caryn (Jamie) Steele, Jennifer (Scott) Lang, and Tracy (Keith) Dyer; her grandchildren, Cayce (Bryan) Chance, Cody Steele, Cristena (Matthew) Parker, Adam (Kaitlyn) Lang, Braxton (Hailey) Lang, Grayson (Darby) Lang, Lexi (fiancé Clay Deason) Lang, Nathan (Chelsea) Dyer, Jacob (Abigail) Dyer, and Davis (Julia) Dyer; and her great-grandchildren, Steele, Crew, and West Chance, Cross and Cannon Steele, Emerson, Elliston, and Maddox Parker, John Walker Lang, Leighton, Monroe, and Ellis Dyer. She is also survived by her brothers, Jimmy Hamilton, Jackie Hamilton, Garry Latimer, Steve Latimer, and Rodney Latimer, along with nieces, nephews, and many close friends who adored her.
In addition to her remarkable achievements, Teena will be remembered fondly for the love and kindness she bestowed upon those fortunate enough to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Foster Hamilton and Virginia Mae McWherter; and her brothers, William Hamilton and Greg Latimer.
Teena was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; a Mimi to everyone. She will be deeply missed by her family and all that knew her.
Funeral Services for Teena will take place on September 12, 2024, at the Community Church of Hendersonville, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Her family invites all who wish to celebrate her life and memory to join them in honoring the remarkable woman she was.
