Donald Kinley Sechler was born on July 12, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, and peacefully ran into the arms of Jesus on February 18, 2022. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Boyd and grandson, Presley Boyd, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; his sister, Deanna Francis of Felt, Oklahoma; a host of nieces and nephews, and a good number of the loving cousin gang that he grew up with. He was the son of Walter S. (Dick) and Dorothy Sechler who preceded him in death.
Don spent his school age years in Boise City, Oklahoma, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Valparaiso, Indiana. During his senior year of high school, the family returned to Boise City whereupon he enlisted in the US Army upon graduation from Boise City High School and served in Germany and Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam he became an Oklahoma State Trooper. He also served in the US Army Reserve. In the 1970s Don felt the call of the Lord in his life and moved his family to Springfield, Missouri, where he attended Baptist Bible College from which he graduated and became an ordained minister. He and his family moved to Colorado where he ministered for several years. Don also served as a police officer and councilman for the City of Palisade, Colorado. Later in life, Don followed in his father’s footsteps and started driving a semi-truck across the country. He drove for Werner Enterprises and received several safety and million mile awards. He proudly wore his Werner jacket with all of his award patches on it and enjoyed talking about it when people commented.
In 2009 he permanently moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee, to live with his daughter and grandson. He continued to drive a truck until his retirement in 2018. In his later years, he enjoyed watching movies and taking selfies with the animals in the house. He was a member of Grace Point Church of Gallatin where he loved serving as a security person and keeping the children’s department safe during services.
Don was an avid sports fan and loved to watch Nascar. He was very proud of his grandson, Presley, and attended almost all of the home football games at Hendersonville High School for the last 4 years where he cheered on the Commandos and swelled with pride as Presley marched with the Hendersonville Band of Gold.
Don loved the Lord and was thankful for his salvation. He rarely missed an opportunity to tell people about Jesus. In fact, he was so concerned for those who didn’t know Jesus, that in his will, if we were all gone because of the rapture, he wanted all of his worldly possessions to go to his church to help those who missed the rapture so that they could fight the Antichrist.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, February 24th at 7 p.m. at Grace Point Church of Gallatin, 1200 Hartsville Pike, with family visitation beginning at 5 p.m. The service will be conducted by Dr. Mark Grubb.
