David Robert Walrath, age 71 of Bethpage, TN passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at his home. He was born in Hornell, New York on January 1, 1953 to Robert Levi Walrath and Anne Elizabeth Lehto.
David was preceded in death by both of his parents, a baby sister, Debbie; and both sets of grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Terry Darlene Walrath; one son, Joshua Walrath (Liz) of California; two brothers, Dennis Walrath (Dierdra) of South Carolina, Douglas Walrath (Donna) of North Carolina; sister, Dianne Lareau (Neil) of South Carolina; one uncle, Norman Walrath of Florida; and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
David graduated from Eau Gallie High School, in Eau Gallie, Florida, Class of 1970 and was a member of the Eau Gallie High School Reunion Committee for the Class of 1970 where he had many alumni friends. David was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a lifelong Christian and attended First Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida. He was also a member of Journey Christian Church in Apopka, Florida for 27 years and was a very active participant in everything from parking assistant, children's church, greeter, and serving communion. He had many Christian friends at Journey. He was active in his church in Apopka, Florida and played Dr. Cranwinkle in children's church, and he also had the honor of serving as Jesus in a Christmas play once.
David was so talented: From painting, to woodworking, and quilting. He made several breast cancer quilts for Vanessa Echols Breast Cancer. He loved to make teddy bears for the children at Sumner Regional Hospital in Gallatin, TN. He also made teddy bears for Give Kids The World in Orlando, Florida. He could do almost anything: he once made his wife a kitchen table from a waterbed wooden base he found on the side of the road, and still has the table today. He met his wife, Terry Darlene, at a High School Reunion Committee meeting and friends said we have to hook them up, and they did. A special memory was when David won an all expenses paid trip for two for 8 days, to Papeete, Tahiti, where he and his wife got to visit two of the islands, Moorea and Nuka Hiva via air boat to Moorea and helicopter from the airport to the hotel in Nuka Hiva. He will be missed by many, many people.
