Claire Ruth Brugman was born on September 30, 1934, and at age 90 went to her heavenly home on October 29, 2024. She was living with her daughter in Cedar Hill Tennessee. She was the only child of Otto Fantow and Alma Schloemp Fantow. Claire was born in Highland Park, Michigan. Claire attended Eastern Michigan University where she joined the Alfa Sigma Tau sorority and made lifelong friendships. She graduated from college with a degree in teaching.
In June of 1956 Claire married Robert W Brugman and they spent 55 years together. Bob preceded her in death on October 21, 2011. Together they raised three children Katherine Grieves, Karen Cook (Joey) and William Brugman. She had the joy of seven grandchildren Robert Grieves, Kristi Smith (Jesse), Charles Cook (Laura), Emily Ensley (Kenny), Hannah Cook, Jeremy Brugman (Jordan) and Samual Brugman (Mary). Claire was blessed with eleven Great Grandchildren Jacob Grieves, Waylon Smith, Riley Smith, Collin Smith, Sophia Henry, Christopher Henry, Adelyn Ensley, Alexander Ensley, Abigail Cook, William Cook, and Gabriel Brugman. She also had two great, great grandchildren, Paige and Jaxxon. One step great, great grandchild Josiah.
Growing up Claire started sing in the Church choir, which gave her a love for music. She learned to play the piano and organ. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to learn and appreciate music. She loved to attend the Symphony and other performances. Claire also enjoyed entertaining and socializing with family and friends.
Claire and Bob enjoyed many years traveling, camping, and exploring the United States and Canada. Oh, the adventures they had!
Claire touched hundreds of lives while teaching mathematics. She taught at Whitter Junior High School in Livonia, Michigan. Then in1979 Claire and her family relocated to Hendersonville, TN. She taught first at Portland Junior High School and moved to White House High School. Claire also taught night classes at Volunteer State Community College. She loved her students and wanted them to excel. She volunteered her time to coach Volleyball, Cheerleading, and planning numerous dances and homecomings.
