Charles Ferrell Smotherman, age 72 of Gallatin and formerly of Hendersonville, passed away June 10, 2022 surrounded by his family. Charles was born on July 27, 1949 in Nashville, Tennessee to Margaret Elizabeth Winn Smotherman and the late William Albert Smotherman. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Smotherman; daughters, Christy Grenat (Jeremy), Angie Douglas (Kevin) and Megan Huy (Samson); mother, Margaret Elizabeth Smotherman; grandchildren, Jackson Grenat, Kamden Douglas, Aidan Huy, and Silas Huy; and his sister, Susan Amos. A proud father of three girls, Charles spent many years coaching them in softball at Drakes Creek Park; he enjoyed golfing, was an avid Vanderbilt University fan and fan of anyone who was playing Tennessee. Charles was a true "fix-it man" who could repair anything; he worked for many years at Peterbilt until the plant closed and then at Freed's Ace Hardware until retirement. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville with Chaplain Alan Corry officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Beech Cemetery with Jeremy Grenat, Kevin Douglas, Samson Huy, Jackson Grenat, Devlin Amos, and Ronnie Copelin serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
