Carole J. Whitton, age 87 of Nashville, passed away October 16, 2023. Carole was born July 16 1936 in Menominee, Michigan to the late Richard Whitton and the late Bertha Ardella Gustafson Whitton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald Whitton of Appleton, Wisconsin and Charles Whitton of Nunnelly, Tennessee. Carole was raised in Menominee and graduated from Menominee High School in 1954. She moved to Washington DC and worked for the US Navy Department and took singing lessons. She later moved to New York City where she studied opera singing and took art lessons. Carole eventually performed in the chorus of the New York Metropolitan Opera while living 45 years in New York. She also painted pictures and exhibited them in art shows at galleries in New York City.
Carole was driven by her love of the arts. She also loved to travel and returned to Menominee to see her Mom once every year for a few weeks, during that time she enjoyed reuniting with old friends. She later returned and lived in Menominee and continued to paint, she was a member of the Art League.
She is survived by her sister Marlea Whitton (Lea) of Hendersonville; four nieces Alisa Joseph Deutsch, Justine McCormick, Cheryl Buersmeyer, and Laura Joseph; two nephews Michael and Paul Whitton
A Celebration of Carole’s Life will be held on December 9, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until time of service.
