Bobby Joe Morris

MORRIS, Bobby Joe “Tall Man”, age 83 of Hendersonville, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was born in Robertson County on May 18, 1933. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1951 and was Center on the basketball team and an End on the football team. As a graduate of Union University, he was voted Best All Around Male Student his Senior year, and was also the Pledge Master of the SAE Fraternity. At Union, he was also a three sport starter in football, basketball and track. He was an avid Vandy Fan. He is a U.S. Army Veteran and was later Manager of the Springfield Herald newspaper for 6 years, Public Relations Director for NASCO for 22 years, and then a Field Sales Manager for Readers Digest. He was a life member of the Optimist Club. He loved the church, serving as ordained Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and devoted Choir member. Second only to the Lord would be his love of his family and their music. The consummate supporter and encourager to all within his circle of influence.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, William A. Morris and Bela Morris; and sister, Geneva Cormany.
He loved and adored his wife, Sylvia Vise Morris of Memphis. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. He is also survived by a daughter, Crystal (Edward) Albornoz; a son, Eric (Nicole) Morris; grandchildren, Brock Tatum, Lexie Tatum, Carlye Morris, Hope Albornoz and Lake Morris.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16, from 2pm until 7pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Hendersonville; and on Monday, October 17, at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville from 11am until his Celebration of Life Service at 2pm with Dr. Bruce Chesser officiating.
Pallbearers will be Don Hicks, Art Mayernick, Myers Parsons, Jeff Lake, Ted Stubblefield, Doug Ebelhar and Merrol Hyde .
Interment will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
