Bloma Ross Hale died peacefully in her sleep on February 12, 2022.
A longtime resident of Hendersonville, Bloma was born on October 19, 1928, in Smyrna, TN. She was the third of four children born to William Warren Ross and Willie Mae (Heath) Ross. Bloma attended Peabody College and worked as an administrative assistant in Nashville for several years. She married James David “Jim” Hale in 1950 and they settled in Hendersonville, where Jim established a veterinary practice. Bloma and Jim had three children: David, Julie, and Steve.
Bloma enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, reading, and spending time with family. She loved cats and had several over the years. In earlier years the family traveled to many states in the American West on trips in a truck camper. Later Bloma and Jim enjoyed exploring the back roads and small towns of Tennessee on shorter trips. They were avid members of a wildflower group and one of Bloma’s great joys was seeing her garden come alive in spring.
As a longtime member of Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church, Bloma was active in church life and formed many meaningful friendships over the years. Her personality was defined by her kindness, her interest in the lives of others, and her sweet smile.
Bloma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim; her brother William Ross Jr.; and her sister Rosalyn Akin. She is survived by her sister Mae Summar (Brentwood, TN); son David (Hendersonville, TN); daughter Julie (Seattle, WA); son Steve (Redwood City, CA); and nephews Ken (Lynn) Summar, Steve (Stephanie) Jordan, and Bob (Leslie) Akin.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 172 West Main Street in Hendersonville at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bloma’s honor to First Presbyterian Church.
