Anthony Nelson (Tank) Tate, Jr.

Anthony Nelson (Tank) Tate, Jr., age 21 of Hendersonville, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Knoxville. "Tank", as he was known by family and friends, was a loving and outgoing young man who could light up a room just by walking into it. Not only was he an outstanding athlete, but he was given the Outstanding English Student award his Junior year. He set several records at Pope John Paul II High School, and broke several weight lifting records that had been held for over 15 years at Hendersonville High School - still holding the overall weight lifting record at HHS. In college, he was allowed to teach his philosophy class for two sessions recently, helping the professor communicate with the class more effectively.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond Edward and Bobbie Ann Tate; great-grandmothers', Aileen Simpson and Elizabeth Childs; great-grandfather, Edgar Childs. He is survived by his devoted parents, Francine and Anthony Tate, Sr.; his brothers, Alexander and Kathan Tate; his grandparents, Tennie and Kenneth Childs; his great-grandfather, Albert Lee Simpson; his godmother, Jacqueline Harding; and devoted friend Amber Choice. He is also survived by uncles, Kenneth (Marticia) Childs, Edward Tate and Raymond Troy Tate; aunts, Kimberly Tennill Childs, Stephanie Tate, Chanta Tate Smith (Avery), Gwendolyn Tate Dunn, Denise Tate Dangerfield, Ramona Clemmons, Love Tate, Shamichi Tate Bryson, Tamia Joi Tate and Candy Tate; great aunts, Cherrion Pointer, Vera "Muchie" Hardin, Isophine "Spanky" Childress, Remonia "Yogi" Harris, Regina Childs, Patricia Childs and Beverly Childs; great uncles, Edgar (Angel) Childs and Dennis "Chic" Childs; great aunt, Shirley Carpenter; a devoted cousin, Brandon Dante' Childs; and a host of many more cousins.

His family will receive friends on Monday, May 22, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Tuesday, May 23, from 10;00am until his Celebration of Life service at 11:00am. All visitation and services will be at Hendersonville First Baptist Church with Pastor Deadrick Messanger officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Coaches and Players of the 2014 HHS Commando Football Team.
Active Pallbearers will be Alexander Tate, Kathan Tate, Brandon Dante’ Childs, Josh Edwards, Will Swafford, Gunnar Franks and Corey Jones. Interment will follow at East Dickson Cemetery in Dickson, TN. at 2:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anthony Tate, Jr. Memorial Fund at any F&M Bank.
Services have been entrusted to Austin & Bell Funeral Home, 104 Sanders Ferry Road, Hendersonville, TN.
