Anita Marie Fleming Corbitt

Anita Marie Fleming Corbitt, 74, affectionately known as Nita-Re, Mom or Maw-Maw, passed away at her home on July 9, 2023 under the loving care of her family.

Nita-Re was born May 3, 1949 to Partee Fleming and Anita Tiblier Fleming in Memphis, TN. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1967 and attended Memphis State University.  She married her husband Joe Corbitt in 1973 and was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother of five children. She always saw the good in others and radiated positivity.  "Choose to create a great day" was her favorite farewell message when sending off five tired and not-so-enthusiastic kids to school.

She was a devout Catholic, and was always quick to volunteer her time and resources to the people and causes she was passionate about, particularly Ladies of Charity and Holy Rosary Catholic Church and School in Memphis, TN. At Holy Rosary her contributions included cafeteria volunteer, soccer coach, bereavement committee chair, and founding member of the Memphis Italian Festival.

In 2013, Nita-Re and Joe moved to the Nashville area, where she was quick to get involved at St. Pius X Church and then Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville, TN.  She developed many caring friendships and continued her call of service and volunteerism, actively participating in many organizations including Cursillo, Kairos Prison Ministry, St. Vincent de Paul, Seven Sisters Apostolate, and establishing the Magnificat charter for the Diocese of Nashville.

She is preceded in Heaven by her parents, Partee and Anita Fleming, her sister, Geraldine Fleming Millaway, her brother James Partee Fleming, and her granddaughter Morgan Alexis Corbitt. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph A. Corbitt, Sr; her children Alex (Emily), Helen (Nate), Quinn (Melissa), Catherine (Brandon) and Anita (Gene); and her grandchildren Maddie, Addison, Rozalyn, Lucy, Mitchell, Graham, Marley, Stella, Posey, Orin, Walter, Mackie, and Max.

Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville with Father Thomas Kalam celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville with a Rosary Service to follow at 7:00 P.M. Mrs. Corbitt will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10:30 A.M. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. A separate memorial service will be held in Memphis, TN at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Legacy Fund at Holy Rosary School in Memphis, TN or the Seminarian Education Fund in your local diocese.
