Alvin Lyell Hunter, age 88 of Hendersonville passed away December 24, 2024 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Lyell was born on August 4, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Aubrey Lyell Hunter and the late Annie Ruth Hart Hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tippi Elizabeth Hunter.
Lyell is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry Hunter; children, Tony Hunter (Debora), Tracye Hunter Holt (Tim), Todd Hunter, and Tara Hunter Gibson; step-children, Dawn Kearns (Mike), Stacy Witt (Mike), Scott Guthrie, and Jacquline Rhodes (Jamie); 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ray Hunter and Clifford Hunter.
Born and raised in Nashville, Lyell was a 1955 graduate of Isaac Litton High School where he was an all-state football player. He attended the University of Wyoming on a full football scholarship. A true cowboy at heart, Lyell enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was a true sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. At age 11, Lyell started his career in the grocery business which spanned almost 50 years. Most of all, Lyell was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 28, 2024, 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville with Rev. Dr. David Asante officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until time of service. The family will have a private burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
